A guest lecture by Nikhil Kulkarni in Business Communication session

Today we had a guest in our session at 9:00 am in the morning. It was the first time that Mandi Sir (Prof. T. Prasad) was present in the session but did not speak for more than 5 mins, I know the reason behind this- our preofessor respects the alumnus of the institute who are working for their own company i.e. he has deep respect for "Entrepreneurs". He always motivates us to become an entrepreneur but for that he emphasizes on improving our communication skills, and this guest was here to share his experience with us on the same.

Nikhil has worked as an IT consultant at KPMG for a decade performing various roles and excelling at his responsibilities. In 2008, Nikhil tried to start his own venture but he failed, and today he knows the reason behind his failure, he explains "I was working on it part time." and now 12 years after that he has started his own company which provides travel services including holiday packages with a strong commitment towards customer satisfaction., and this time Nikhil is working on it "Full-time" curating his previouos fault. Nikhil has co-founded Tripdarvin, providing a one-stop solution to all travel needs including hotels, holiday packages,  transport, guide and meals. I would suggest the readers to visit his website once and point out how TripDarvin is different from other travel agents e.g. MakeMyTrip, goibibo, Yatra, easemyTrip etc. the link for TripDarvin is-  https://tripdarwin.com.

Nikhil discussed the most mportant aspect in business communication to have a strong career growth that is "Self Branding". In the following section I will be discussing what is self branding why it is important and how to do it, as summarised by Nikhil.
  • What is self branding and why to do it:
personal brand is the unique combination of skills and experiences that make you who you are. It is how you present yourself to the world. Effective personal branding will differentiate you from the competition and allow you to build trust with prospective clients and employers. Nikhil says "I never needed to go looking for work, work used to come to me. Many a times it has happened that people would come to me saying- I know you can help me ." This is because of the self branding. People would come to you asking "hey, would you like to work with us", or asking for help and saying "hey, Mr. XYZ, I am stuck with this problem and I believe you can help me out".

  • How to develop your personal brand:
        1. Determine and prioritize yournvalues and passions
        2. Define your key triats
        3. Build your online presence
        4. Define your target audience
        5. Start blogging
Stressing mostly on third step Nikhil explained how digital media platforms can be useful for self branding. Youtube is the best platform to create a market for your own second most powerful tool is BLOGGING, a huge number of reders come to blogs to get knowledge about various fields and here you can show your skills making an impression in mind of readers. There are many more platforms which can be used for self branding e.g. Instagram, Linkedin, Researchgate, Telegram....... blah..blah..blah.

Moving ahead Nikhil discussed about impoprtance of self branding for a consultant. personal branding brings you credibility and attention. Building your personal brand adds a key element to your company’s marketing strategy and build stronger communication with the clients as well as the team. it’s about being known for something and consistently emphasizing your expertise. It’s about your reputation. It’s about your image, how you’re perceived in the workplace and online. It’s how you promote yourself and “go to market.” And it’s an ongoing effort.
Thus clients get to know you before a one-on-one meeting and would call you accordingly.

Personnal branding becomes more important as you rise in the heirarchy of a consulting company because now it's you who has to turn the table and bring the clients.

So, go on, just do it, start creating digital contents that show to the world who you really are and what expertise you have and how you could be helpful to others.

#CreateYourOwnBrand

I would like to thank @Nikhil Kulkarni for such an ensightful and learning session.
